A flame source near your patient's nasal cannula creates a high risk of a surgical fire, even at flows as low as 2 L/min. The continuous flow of oxygen from your oxygen flowmeter on the wall makes that risk especially high, and makes it almost impossible to put out the flame without removing the oxygen supply.
The Sovant only gives oxygen as your patient inhales, and discontinues oxygen flow when they are not actively breathing in. This not only makes a flame easy to extinguish, but significantly reduces the likelihood of surgical fire to begin with.
